An Osage Indian layabout named John Grayeagle has been raised by his grandfather. When he inherits property from an older sister, he finds that his easy life is over--he has responsibilities. One of the problems is whether to handle them himself or turn over his new estate to the Bureau of Indian Affairs--and as he tries to make his decision, he discovers that murder and fraud are part of the equation.
