Between Us Girls

Written in 1957 but not discovered for 30 years, this humorous novel is Joe Orton`s only work of fiction. The plot involves an aspiring actress, her enslavement in Mexico, and her rise to the top of the film industry in Hollywood. The novel contains many of the themes that would emerge in Orton`s plays: black humor, the comic futility of being obsessed with appearances, and the contrast between the characters` lives and the language with which they talk about them.
