SCEAs SOCOM series has proven to be one of the most successful squad-based shooter games for the PS2, and the series only gets better with SOCOM 3: US NAVY SEALS, which features new vehicles, new missions, and more great SOCOM excitement. Players are once again put in to the role of the commander of a squad of four US Navy Seals. This time, players have three campaigns to play through and will journey from North Africa to South Asia to Poland. Like in the previous games, mission objectives will vary greatly and include everything from protecting an area , saving a hostage, and taking out an enemy leader. Players may even be asked to take down tanks or other vehicles using missile launchers, and they get to take control of vehicles in several of the missions. Because the maps are so large in SOCOM 3, the game includes a variety of modes of transportation. Trucks, humvees, buggies, and even gunboats are available, and each is armed with some powerful weaponry for players to make use of. The game also includes checkpoints where players can save their progress and heal their team, a nice addition to the game. Many more additions have been added to the game, including the ability to swim, and many fan-favorite features are back, including 32-player online play.
